Greetings,
I am in an undergraduate class that focuses on East Asian Buddhism and I am having a very hard time coming up with a topic to write about. I just can't seem to narrow down the subject matter enough. I was wondering if any of you out there might be able to suggest potential areas that my make an interesting paper. Mind you I am not asking for you to come up with my topic for me. I am just seeking inspiration as to a way to focus down a large body of material. So any suggestions will add to my playfulness of mind in working with this stuff and ultimately deciding on my topic. I have to spend this weekend really working on this as I have to have a proposal turned in next week. Just to clarity, this must be a focus on Chinese or Japanese Buddhism, nor Indian or Tibetan. There can be some discussion of this obviously but the overarching theme must be East Asia.
Many thanks for any thoughtful comments. Blessings.

Re: Pandering for a topic
Sat, March 25, 2006 - 11:47 AMsudden enlightenment vs. enlightenment from a path? is that what you're saying? Hmmmm... An interesting idea, but I don't know where I'd find source material for that or how I could make that into an academic paper. What East Asian systems would have differering thoughts on this? Would tathagatagarbha be this idea of sudden enlightenment? as opposed to Abhidharma or something?
thanks for the consideration...
