I live in Los Angeles, the edge of the western world, yet I have a strong desire to learn as much as I can about eastern thought, particularly Buddhism. I want to learn about the religion and how I can practice as a caucasian male in Los Angeles. Anybody have any suggestions?

This is an obvious starting point:

The Los Angeles Zen Center is old and established - might be worth checking out. -

Re: Seeking information
Thu, May 20, 2004 - 8:59 PMNot sure about Buddhist centers in LA, thought I'm sure they are aplenty, but for Eastern thought and reflection, check out Parahanasa Yogananda's ashrams, which are the homes to the Self-Realization Fellowship - there's one in LA, one in Encinitas, and a few more but I forget where. At the very least, the gardens are beautiful and the teachings are non-denominational.
